Yap Beng Bah Kut Teh in Selangor

Bak Kut Teh, literally translates as "meat bone tea", which is made of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices such as star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic for hours. Additional ingredients may include offal, varieties of mushroom, choy sum, and dried tofu puffs. (From Wikipedia)

I heard so much about dry Bak Kut Teh but never had a chance to try one before. Now we had a chance! The owner (Mr Yap) has a conversation with us and we got to know that Yap Beng restaurant have branches in several places in Selangor, such as Klang, Seri Kembangan (our review place), Kuchai Lama (opened last Jun), etc. Apart of Bak Kut Teh, Yap Beng Restaurant do serves Shark Soup, Stir Fried Shark Meat, Chillies Shrimp and etc. HeHeHe~ =P

My most favourite food at Yap Beng Restaurant was the "Dry version Bak Kut Teh" (their speciality)! The meat was cooked with lady’s fingers, dry chilies, dry cuttlefish, black sauce and soy sauce. It has a thicker gravy (reduced from broth) which has a tangier and sharper taste compared with the others. Pork never tasted so good!!!

Besides, you may try on their Wet version Bak Kut Teh. The soup has a right balance of herbal taste and sweet pork flavor. You will never waste the soup~ You may also request variety of meats such as spare ribs, big/small marrow bones, cartilage, lean meat, fatty meat, knuckles, stomach, intestines and etc. My most favourite pork portion will always the semi fatty meat and pork knuckles!

Want something more than Bak Kut Teh? You can order their Shark Meat Soup, which consist of shark meat, tomato, salted vegetables, onion and etc. It was little bit salty, sour and appetizing. However, the portion was large for several people consumption.

Oh ya~ You still can choose to stir fry shark meat (LEFT). It is just a simple stir fry dish of dried chillies, onion, okra and etc, but shark meat makes it different compared with the others~

Chillies Shrimp (RIGHT), a home-made dish that taste a little bit oily, spicy and mama feel~

Steamed Silken Tofu, a smooth silken bean curd which is good to eat with little more than a few fresh ingredients (minced meat, savoury gravy, and spring onion) to complement the texture and refreshing nature of this yummy food. (Btw, I am not a fan of steamed silken tofu. =P)
