Special thanks to CRIZ BON APPETITE for inviting us to join the Penang Hawker Foods & Restaurant Hunting Trip together with the KL Berjaya group student chefs and also hosted Steven and my accommodation. Some of our foods hunting is around George Town, which is recognised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as World Heritage Site (a place has special cultural or physical significance).
During our 3 days 2 night, we manage to explore following foods:
1. Kimberly Street
Duck Meat Keuy Chap
The Keuy Chap is served with either rice sheets (keuy) or rice (in porridge form). I have omitted the duck blood and organs/visceral.
Once I tasted the Duck Meat Keuh Chap, seriously, I can felt the duck flavor was filling up all of my mouth. The taste was so irresistible and I kept telling Criz that I will miss this so much.
Open: 6.30pm-midnight.
Close: Thursdays except if it's a public holiday.
Price: RM 6.00
The Peanut Tong Sui is served with sliced YouTiao (Chinese Bread Sticks). This tong sui (dessert) is common during funeral in some Chinese places. The YouTiao are very crunchy (a little bit hard). I would prefer if it is more crispy. However, the taste was good and it is different when you eat the YouTiao with peanut tong sui
2. Magazine Road
The small Tang Yen are very soft, while the big is filled with either peanut or black sesame. I have eaten the peanut and it was good!!! The soup was a little bit spicy but it just good enough to my liking. I do not know much about ginger, but according to the owner, the ginger used are good quality which was harvested in somewhere hills.
3. Breakfast at Gelugor & Chowrasta Market
There is a speciality of the Chee Cheong Fan, where the sauce made of Peanut Butter. The taste are much more sweeter and fragrant. It is recommended that to share this food with your friends, otherwise you might feel "full".
The wantan mee is different from what I eaten before. The mee is fried before mixed with the sauce. Well, the texture is different. It is crunchy and tasty~
The forth and the fifth is Peanut biscuit and soybean drink respectively.
4. Visitation to Hock Lok Siew Biscuit Manufacturing, Lebuh Noordin, Penang
4. Chin Bee Tea Restaurant
Will blog this in next post.
5. Assam Laksa & Lemak Laksa & Char Koay Teow at Sin Hwa Café, Pulau Tikus, Penang
6. Zi Zai Restaurant, Paya Terubong, Penang
7. 43 Cafe, Sungai Dua, Penang
My most recommended food at 43 Cafe is the Ribena Ice Cream. Oh no, I am still craving for this now! It is not easy to describe the taste. This Ribena ice cream has a mild ribena flavor, however, the taste is sweet, milky and little bit salty. We were guessing Jacgy (the owner) used cream cheese in this, but we are wrong. Haha! The ice cream cost rm6 per cup, but I bet you it is worth to try! =)
8. Malaysian delicacies & I Mum Mum Pan Mee, Lebuh Macallum, Penang
2. Ma Lai Kuih - spongy with coffee flavor.
3. La Jiao (spicy) Ban Mian
4. Jiao Zhi
9. Ivy’s Kitchen, Penang Authentic Nyonya Cuisine
Will blog this in next post.
